What to expect during a treatment.
At Te Waiora - Health & Wellness, we believe in providing a thorough and holistic approach to your health. Each treatment session is designed to gain a comprehensive understanding of your unique condition, ensuring that we can offer the most effective and personalised care. Here’s what a typical treatment session looks like:
Comprehensive Health History
Initial Consultation: Our journey together begins with an in-depth consultation. This is a crucial step where we gather a complete health history to understand your current condition and underlying issues. This process includes:
Observational Assessment:
Facial and Body Analysis: We carefully observe your face, body posture, and overall appearance. The condition of your skin, facial expressions, and body language can provide valuable insights into your health.
Skin Colour Examination: The colour and texture of your skin can reveal important information about your internal health and any imbalances you may have.
Physical Examination:
Palpation: We gently palpate various parts of your body to identify areas of tension, tenderness, and imbalance. This hands-on assessment helps us understand the physical aspects of your condition.
Pulse Diagnosis: Taking the pulse is a fundamental aspect of TCM. We assess the pulse at different points on your wrists to gather information about your overall health, energy levels, and the state of your internal organs.
Tongue Diagnosis: The tongue is a map of the body in TCM. We examine the colour, shape, coating, and texture of your tongue to gain insights into your digestive health, circulation, and internal imbalances.
Questioning:
Symptom Inquiry: Detailed questions are asked about your symptoms, including their onset, duration, and any factors that aggravate or alleviate them. This helps us understand the full picture of your health concerns.
Lifestyle and Emotional Health: We discuss your daily habits, diet, stress levels, and emotional well-being. These factors play a significant role in your overall health and can influence your treatment plan.
Medical History: Any relevant medical history, including past illnesses, surgeries, medications, and treatments, is carefully reviewed. This helps us create a treatment plan that complements your existing medical care.
Treatment Plan
Diagnosis and Strategy: Based on the information gathered, we formulate a TCM diagnosis that identifies the root cause of your condition. We then develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and health goals. This plan may include a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, cupping, electro-acupuncture, Tui Na, Gua Sha, and dietary advice.
Treatment Session:
Needle Insertion
Gentle Insertion: The practitioner will gently insert the needles into specific acupoints on your body. The number of needles used can vary based on your condition and treatment plan.
Minimal Sensation: Most patients experience minimal sensation during needle insertion, often described as a slight tingling, a dull ache, or a feeling of warmth. The process is typically painless.
Relaxation Period: Once all the needles are in place, they will be retained for about 20 to 45 minutes. During this time, you are encouraged to relax and remain still to allow the needles to work effectively.
Restful Experience: Many patients find this period deeply relaxing and often fall asleep. The environment is designed to enhance your comfort and relaxation.
Monitoring: Our practitioner will periodically check on you to ensure you are comfortable and to make any necessary adjustments to the needles. This helps maintain the effectiveness of the treatment.
Gentle Removal: After the retention period, the practitioner will gently remove the needles. Most patients do not feel any discomfort during needle removal.
Post-Treatment Care:
Brief Rest: You may be asked to rest for a few minutes after the needles are removed to allow your body to adjust.
Feedback and Advice: The practitioner will discuss how you feel after the session and may provide advice on aftercare, including hydration, rest, and any activities to avoid.
Follow-Up and Ongoing Care: We believe in continuity of care. After your initial treatment, we schedule follow-up session if necessary. Monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. Our goal is to support you on your journey to optimal health and well-being.
